How We Design a Financial Tool (A Look Inside Our Process)

Every Merieva product starts with a stressful moment — not a spreadsheet. A walk through our design process, from research to the 40-draft dashboard.

Start with the stressful moment

The Pension Decision Workbook didn't start as a spreadsheet idea. It started with a story we heard repeatedly: someone hands you an HR packet full of numbers, a permanent decision, and no explanation. That moment — capable adult, high stakes, zero clarity — is where every product begins.

We interview people in that moment, collect the questions they wish someone would answer, and only then open Excel.

The ten-minute rule

Every tool must deliver its first insight within ten minutes of download. Not after an evening of setup — ten minutes. This rule kills a lot of clever features. It also explains why our Start Here tabs are the most-revised pages in every product.

Complexity is easy to add and expensive to remove, so we ship the version that respects your Tuesday evening.

Dashboards earn their charts

Every chart must answer a question you'd actually ask: Am I improving? What's next? What's wrong? If a visual is merely impressive, it's cut. The typical Merieva dashboard goes through dozens of drafts, and the final version usually has fewer elements than the first.

Calm is a feature. It's often the feature.
